Reiki

Reiki is the name for both a healing modality and the energy that is used to facilitate healing. The word Reiki is Japanese, and consists of two characters, Rei and Ki. The top character, Rei, is variously translated as words such as “Guided”, “Universal” or “Divine.” The bottom character, Ki, is the life force energy that is within each living thing, and indeed, flows throughout the entire universe. So, Reiki means something like “divine life force energy” or “directed life force energy.”
As a healing modality, Reiki means the channeling and direction of that energy in order to restore an energetic balance within the individual being treated. It is not the Reiki practitioner that does the healing; rather, the practitioner is only a tuned channel who allows the Reiki energy to flow through him or her, into the individual being treated. The individual being treated accepts this energy, and it naturally goes to the area(s) that are most in need of healing, whether that healing is mental, emotional, or physical.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no set of scriptures, no dogma, and there is no creed you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not, as long as the person being treated does not reject it.
Although Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki system of natural healing, recommended that one practice certain simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all cultures. These are often stated in slightly different ways, but are generally known as the Reiki Precepts.
Reiki may be administered to young or old, male or female, human or animal. It is an accepted complementary health practice in integrated medicine settings, and is being used in leading hospitals in the U.S. and internationally, including:
The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Hartford Hospital
Sharp Medical Group
Western Connecticut Health Network
Carroll Hospital Center
Boston Children’s Hospital
Pricing
In-office Reiki
$60/session
Reiki sessions may be conducted on a massage table or in a chair, if the client prefers. Usually, the room is slightly darkened, for comfort. The practitioner may lightly touch the client, or the practitioner’s hands may be held just above the surface of the client’s body. The client may choose not to be touched during treatment, if they so desire.
During the session, music or ambient sounds may be played in the background to help provide a calm atmosphere, and aromatherapy may be used to help make the session soothing and relaxing. A typical session lasts between 45 minutes and one hour.
Distant Reiki
$50/session
Because Reiki is a universal energy that flows anywhere and everywhere, unlimited by the boundaries of space and time, Reiki healing can be facilitated from a distance, as well as when the practitioner and the client are in the same room. Distant Reiki can be sent across the room, across town, or across state lines. Documented results have been recorded from Distant Reiki sent across many miles.
Normally such distant Reiki sessions are arranged and conducted via telephone or some other communications method such as Skype. The client should arrange to be in a calm, quiet place during the session, where they will not be interrupted by other persons, the phone, email notifications or other such distractions. A typical session lasts between about 45 minutes.
Onsite Reiki
$60/session
Onsite Reiki sessions are conducted at the client’s home or other location away from our office. They may be conducted using a massage table, or with the client sitting in a chair or otherwise in a relaxed position, and in a comfortable, quiet room at the client’s location. Otherwise, everything is essentially as it is with an in-office session. A typical session lasts betwen 45 minutes and one hour.
Because of the travel involved, the time, and occasionally the transport and setup of a treatment chair or massage table, we must add travel charges to such Reiki sessions. The travel cost is $1.00 per mile, with a minimum of $10. Travel also must be within 30 miles of our office, one way, as measured by Google maps or other such program.
Reiki for Animals
Call to Discuss
Animals and all other living things have been demonstrated to respond to Reiki energy healing, just as human beings do. Reiki is not faith healing, so it does not rely upon the animal’s faith or belief for its efficacy.
A variety of animals have been treated, and helped, by Reiki practitioners, from dogs and cats, to horses, cows, sheep, and others.
For animals, the session can be conducted in the animal’s stall or pen, in a vet’s office, or in the home. The animal, if small, can be held by the owner while the Reiki session is in progress, if the owner wishes. If the animal is nervous or upset, the Reiki can be delivered just as well from a distance (across the room, outside the pen, etc.), without intruding on the animal’s space.
